There are salads and soups, but you’re there for the meat, particularly the brisket. You can enjoy a 250g slice of fork-tender brisket, with buttermilk biscuit and slaw, for the full-on Texan experience. Or go sandwich-style with either the Classic or Daddy’s brisket sandwich, stuffed with slaw and secret sauce.

Burger and rib fans won’t be disappointed, as they’re well catered for. Burgers come standard with two 90g patties, and you can choose from a variety of options: mushroom sauce, crispy fried onions, sliced cheese, fried egg, pastrami, and pickles, all slathered onto a brioche bun. Add a side of Mac ‘n Cheese or some of their loaded fries. The sweet potato fries with cheese and jalapeno are genius.

You have to finish off with a Brownie Sundae – if you have the space, which we didn’t, but went ahead anyway.

One of the few restaurants serving South and North Indian cuisine in the Al Barari-Majan area, Mirchi Garden also offers Pakistani, Thai, Chinese, and Filipino specialties.

With its café-style counter and comfortable booths, Mirchi Garden is ideal for a quick lunch or dinner. It’s busy, with people wandering in and out for juices and takeaways, and is popular with professionals and laborers alike, especially for the numerous combo-specials.

Mirchi Garden’s biriyanis are famous, with the chicken and chicken tikka highly recommended. Make sure you get there early – there’s a massive demand for this amazingly spiced rice dish, and they run out at busy times. The BBQ kebabs are also delicious, as are their freshly made bread and wraps.

If you can fit in dessert afterward, try the faluda and the gulab jamoon, just like mom used to make them.
